“Alice by Heart”: EMU Theatre Department

Oct. 3–6. Pam Cardell directs musical theater students in Duncan Sheik, Steven Sater, & Jessie Nelson’s touching, darkly whimsical 2019 musical, a melancholy retelling of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It’s about a teenage girl, bunkering in a London tube station after the 1941 Blitz, who attempts to use the power of fantasy and storytelling to save her best friend, who is dying from tuberculosis. Music direction from R. MacKenzie Lewis and choreography by Jennifer Felts. Recommended for ages 13 & up. The Thursday performance is a preview and features a chance for the audience to share their input following the show. 7 p.m. (Thurs.–Sat.) & 2 p.m. (Sun.), EMU Legacy Theatre, 124 Judy Sturgis Hill Bldg., Ford St. (off Lowell from Huron River Dr.), Ypsilanti. Tickets $20 (seniors, $15; students, $12; kids ages 6–12, $7) in advance at emich.ludus.com & at the box office (10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri.), and (if available) at the door. (734) 487–2282.
