A2 Jazz Fest
This afternoon of free jazz performances kicks off with a Jazz Workshop (noon) aimed at teens that’s led by local drummer Sean Dobbins and Detroit trombonist Vincent Chandler. Followed by the Community High School Jazz Ensemble (2:30 p.m.), the local hard-driving bop-era swing by the Elvin Sharp Quartet (3:15 p.m.), and swinging hard bop by the Sean Dobbins Quintet (4 p.m.). A2 Jazz Fest (October 3-6) also features the jazz-theater work Frames of Mind at Canterbury House (see 5 Saturday listing), as well as performances at the Ark, Ravens Club, and Blue LLama (see Nightspots listings).
