“A Boychoir Christmas”: Boychoir of Ann Arbor
Dec. 13 & 14 (different locations). Boychoir music director John Boonenberg leads this local ensemble of boys ages 7-18, accompanied by organist Naki Sung-Kripfgans, in its 38th annual Christmas concert. The program opens with the traditional processional “Once in Royal David’s City,” with the first verse sung by a solo boy soprano, and concludes with John Gardner’s “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day.” Other works include Beethoven’s “Joyful, joyful, we adore thee,” Holst’s “In the bleak midwinter,” a rhythmically infectious interpretation of the 16th-century carol “Gaudete,” and more. Also, sing-alongs of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful” are kicked off with a soaring Boychoir descant verse. These concerts usually sell out. 7 p.m. (Fri.), Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 4th Ave., & 3 p.m. (Sat.), St. Paul Lutheran Church, 420 Liberty. Tickets $20 (youths 17 & under, free) in advance at boychoir-of-ann-arbor.square.site & tickets@a2boychoir.org, and (if available) at the door. (734) 663–5377.
