Le Shish opened last fall near the Packard/Carpenter intersection where La Fiesta Taqueria used to be, only to close its doors around the end of last year. Folks at House of Liquor a few doors down didn’t know what happened to it. Neither did Zana Zangana, owner of ZZ’s Produce a few doors to the east: “It’s very sad. He’s our neighbor, and I’ve had good food over there.” But he adds that he’s not surprised that Ahmad Mourad’s tiny restaurant failed. “That place is hidden. You have to have something unique to attract the customer’s attention–put chairs out? Signage maybe? Or a unique product no one else has.”
Swisher leasing agent Joe Palms solved the mystery. He confirmed that the restaurant wasn’t doing well but says that Mourad is a barber by trade and plans to open a barbershop there. Zangana approved when he heard the news, texting: “From chef to barber. Actually, that may work.”
