Doug Fox sold his Ann Arbor Automotive dealership on Jackson to Grand Rapids-based Fox Motors in August. Both Foxes assure us there’s no relation. “Isn’t that a funny coincidence,” laughs Doug, “thirty years of not having it in my name, and now it finally does.”
Fox Motors President Diane Maher says they plan to keep the Acura and Nissan dealerships as they are, while the Hyundai dealership will undergo renovations. The ownership change leaves Dunning Toyota and Subaru and Sesi Lincoln and Volvo as Ann Arbor’s last locally owned dealerships.
Fox, who helped start the dealership in 1987 and bought out his partners in 1989, says he is excited about his retirement: “I’m sixty-eight years old, and I’d like to spend a little more time in Florida … though maybe not right now” he adds, referring to the state’s battering by Hurricane Irma.
It was about time The Old Man retired. The last 10 years he took every possible dollar out of the business putting absolutely nothing back in. Doing this while he watched his Million Dollar buildings fall apart. The owner did absolutely ZERO to give back to the community. I MEAN ZERO!!!
