Mar. 1 & 15 (10–11:30 a.m.): “Rescue Reading”: HSHV. Kids ages 6–11 invited to read to adoptable animals to work on their reading skills, using their own or provided books. Mar. 1 (11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.): “The Water Princess”: U-M Kelsey Museum of Archaeology Read and Look. A reading of Susan Verde’s picture book for kids ages 4–7 (accompanied by an adult) about a girl who dreams of bringing clean water to her African village. Followed by a chance to explore the museum’s collection to find items pictured in the book. Kelsey Museum, 434 S. State. Free. (734) 764–9304. 

Mar. 1 (2–3 p.m.): “Clementine Hunter Flower Art”: AADL Malletts Creek. Kids grades preK–5 invited to make a floral still life painting in the style of this Black Louisiana folk artist. 

Mar. 2 (11–11:45 a.m. & noon–12:45 p.m.): Kids Move!”: AADL Westgate. Local teachers Jesse Deucher & Sarah Kairis lead kids preK & under (11 a.m.) and K–5 (noon) in a sensory-friendly program of music and movement. 

Mar. 2 (noon–1 p.m.): “SCRAPpy Bug Kits”: AADL Traverwood. Kids grades K–5 invited to make craft bugs with kits provided by SCRAP Creative Reuse. 

Mar. 2 (1–3 p.m.): “Interactive Movie Experience: Encanto”: AADL Downtown. Participatory showing of the 2021 Disney animation about a family living in a magical Colombian village. Audience members encouraged to act out scenes from the movie as it plays, à la Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings. Scripts and props provided. 

Mar. 2 (1:30 p.m.): “Thank You, Teacher!”: Schuler Books. Kids and their parents invited to listen to Indian American writer Supriya Kelkar read her picture book celebrating kids’ diverse array of teachers, from homeroom to gym to music class. Every Mon.–Fri. (different times): Preschool Storytimes: AADL. Half-hour program of stories and songs for kids ages 2–5 (with caregiver). Pittsfield (Mon. 10:30 a.m. & Thurs. 11 a.m.), Downtown (Tues. 11 a.m.), Malletts Creek (Tues. 11 a.m. & Wed. 10:30 a.m.), Traverwood (Thurs. 11 a.m.), and Westgate (Fri. 1 p.m.). 

Every Mon.–Wed. & Fri. (different times): Playgroups for Babies: AADL. Fifteen minutes of stories, rhymes, and songs led by AADL staffers, followed by a short open playtime. For kids up to 24 months (with caregiver). No older siblings. Malletts Creek (Mon. 10:30 a.m.), Traverwood (Tues. 11 a.m.), Westgate (Wed. 10:30 a.m.), and Downtown (Fri. 10:30 a.m.). 

Mar. 3, 5, & 6 (10:30–11 a.m., different branch locations): “Preschool ArtStart”: AADL. AADL staff lead children ages 2–5, accompanied by an adult, in arts and crafts, with an emphasis on having fun with the process of making something. Traverwood (Mon.), Pittsfield (Wed.), & Malletts Creek (Thurs.). 

Mar. 3 (10:30–11:30 a.m.): “Sensation Stations”: AADL Westgate. Babies and infants age 2 and under, accompanied by an adult, invited to engage their senses by scooping, pouring, shaking, and sorting a variety of materials while exploring colors, shapes, textures, and sounds.

Every Tues. (10:30–11:30 a.m.): “Tummy Time”: AADL Westgate. New parents encouraged to bring their babies for a relaxing hour of on-the-ground play and interaction with other families.

Mar. 5 & 19 (9:30–10:30 a.m.; note time change): “Tiny Tails Story Time”: Tiny Lions. Stories, crafts, finger plays, and interaction with adoptable cats and dogs. Mar. 6, 13, & 20 (10:30–11:30 a.m.): “Little Paws Story Time”: HSHV. Stories, crafts, fingerplays, and interaction with adoptable cats and dogs. Also, a chance to make a toy or treat for the animals. Mar. 6 (6–6:30 p.m.): “AFC Ann Arbor Special Storytime”: AADL Westgate. AFC local soccer player Emily Eitzman reads Grandpa’s Advice, her picture book about a wise grandfather who teaches his young granddaughter to live fully and enjoy the simple things. Also a chance to meet this local semi-professional soccer team’s mascot Nutmeg. Suitable for kids ages 4–8. 

Every Thurs. (6–8 p.m.): Kids D&D Gaming: Sylvan Factory. Kids age 10–14 invited to play a youth version of the popular tabletop roleplaying game. Dinner provided. Sylvan Factory, 2459 W. Stadium Blvd. $10 per kid. Preregistration required at general@sylvanfactory.com. (734) 929–5877. 

Mar. 7 (45:30 p.m.): Youth Nature Program: Ann Arbor Parks Department Natural Area Preservation. K-5 students invited to join city naturalists to learn what is happening in the Huron River during winter and look for fish, crayfish and macroinvertebrates. Includes a 1-mile hike on a hilly trail. Wear waterproof boots and dress for the weather. No restroom available. Mar. 7 (5:30–8:30 p.m.): “Pets and Pajamas Movie Night”: HSHV. All kids ages 6–11 invited to watch an animal-themed movie and interact with adoptable pets. Cheese pizza dinner. Mar. 8 (1–2 p.m.): Marble Run Race: AADL Traverwood. A chance for kids grades preK–5 to use tubes, ramps, and connectors to build a marble racetrack. 

Mar. 10 (6–7 p.m.): “An Evening with the Creature Conservancy”: AADL Pittsfield. Conservancy staffers show families with kids ages 5 & up various animals TBA. 

Mar. 11 (1–1:45 p.m.): “Young Scientists”: AADL Traverwood. Science-themed stories and simple science experiments for preschoolers accompanied by a caregiver. 

Mar. 14 (6–7:30 p.m.): “Glow Dodgeball”: Pittsfield Township Community Center. Kids ages 6-9 invited to play glow dodgeball, using black lights, glow sticks, UV face paint, reflective tape, and more. Snacks. Parents must be present. PTCC, 701 W. Ellsworth. $25 (residents, $20) per child. Preregistration required at recreation.pittsfield-mi.gov. 

Mar. 16 (1, 2, & 3 p.m.): Jewish Storytime: AADL Malletts Creek. Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor storytellers lead a 45-minute program of stories and activities in English (1 & 3 p.m.) and Hebrew (2 p.m.) for kids ages 5–7 (1 p.m.), ages 3–7 (2 p.m.), & ages 2–4 (3 p.m.).

Mar. 17 (10 a.m.–4 p.m.): “St. Patrick’s Day at the Farm”: Domino’s Petting Farm. Crafts & activities TBA. Also, a chance to win free visits, discount coupons, and feed bags. Mar. 21 (4–5 p.m.): Wendy and DB: AADL Downtown. This award-winning Chicago-area guitar and ukulele duo performs original songs about science, nature, and animals for kids & their families. 

Mar. 21 (7:15–8:45 p.m.): “Cats and Kids”: Tiny Lions. Kids ages 6–11 invited to spend time with adoptable cats and kittens at the Tiny Lions Lounge. Also, crafts and games, popcorn, and juice. Mar. 22 (noon–1 p.m.): “Dragon Party!”: AADL Malletts Creek. All kids grades K–5 invited to make dragon-themed crafts and listen to music. 

Mar. 22 (noon–1 p.m.): “A Painting with Pasta!”: AADL Westgate. A chance for kids grades K–5 to make fish skeletons out of spaghetti, macaroni, orecchiette, farfalle, and other pasta shapes. 

Mar. 23 (10:30–11:15 a.m.): “Dancing Babies”: AADL Downtown. Local music teacher Momo Kajiwara leads kids age 5 & under (accompanied by an adult) in a 45-minute program of music and movement. 

Mar. 23 (2–3 p.m.): “DIY Stamps”: AADL Downtown. A chance for kids grades preK–5 to use foam shapes to make their own rubber stamps. 

Mar. 24 (11 a.m.–noon): “Mermaid Sensory Bottles”: AADL Westgate. Kids grades PreK–2 invited to make an underwater-themed sensory bottles using colorful water beads. 

Mar. 24 (2–3 p.m.): “Mischievous Yarn Monsters”: AADL Westgate. Kids grades K–5 invited to make silly little monsters out of yarn, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes. 

Mar. 24 (6–7 p.m.): “LEGO Letterpress”: AADL Downtown. A chance for kids grade 3 & up to build a small design out of LEGOs and then make a print of it using the library’s letterpress presses. 

Mar. 25 (1–2 p.m.): Unicorn Crowns: AADL Pittsfield. Kids ages 5-10 invited to make pretty unicorn crowns out of cardboard, glitter, glue, and other craft materials. 

Mar. 25 (1–2:30 p.m.): Animal Ear & Floral Headbands: AADL Westgate. A chance for kids grades K–5 to craft headbands with felt animal ears, felt flowers, or both. 

Mar. 25–29 (11 a.m.): “Larry Cat in Space”: U-M Museum of Natural History Planetarium & Dome Theater. All ages 3–8 invited to watch a cartoon presentation about an inquisitive cat who takes a trip to the Moon. Also, the regular planetarium shows (see 1 Saturday) screen. Mar. 26 (1–2 p.m.): Pirate Party: AADL Pittsfield. Kids grades K–5 invited to a party with pirate-themed crafts & activities. 

Mar. 26 (1–2 p.m.): Yasu Ishida: AADL Downtown. Performance by this Japanese American children’s entertainer whose act combines elements of traditional Japanese storytelling, music, origami, and magic. 

Mar. 27 (2–3:30 p.m.): “HEXBUG Adventures”: AADL Downtown. A chance for kids grades K–5 to play with the library’s robotic HEXBUGs in an interactive obstacle course. 

Mar. 27 (2–3 p.m.): “Slime Time”: AADL Malletts Creek. Kids grades K–5 invited to play with the library’s slime. 

Mar. 28 (11 a.m.–3 p.m.): “Stream Table Day”: U-M Museum of Natural History. Drop-in interactive programming about rivers and watersheds includes a 10-foot stream table and hands-on science demos. For age 5+. U-M MNH, 1105 North University. Free. (734) 764–0478. 

Mar. 28 (noon–1:30 p.m.): “Star Jars”: AADL Pittsfield. Kids grades K–8 invited to make origami stars, then put them in a glass jar to take home. 

Mar. 29 (1–2:30 p.m.): Junior Naturalist: Birding Buddies”: Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission. WCPARC naturalist Kelsey Dehring helps kids ages 7–11 get started birding, with practice using binoculars, field guides, and bird identification tools. Binoculars provided. Mar. 29 (1–2 p.m.): Peel and Stick Pictures: AADL Malletts Creek. A chance for kids grades preK–3 to make pictures using foam shapes, gem stickers, googly eyes, and other stickers. 

Mar. 29 (1–2 p.m.): Storytelling with Sculptures and Puppets: AADL Pittsfield. Michigan artist Jeff Jantz shows off his whimsical sculptures and puppets, then uses them to tell stories to kids grades K–5. 

Mar. 29 (2–3 p.m.): “Musical Petting Zoo” AADL Downtown. Members of the Michigan Pops Orchestra lead a hands-on workshop to learn about violins, cellos, woodwinds, and other instruments, and perform a short concert of film music. 

Mar. 30 (1–2 p.m.): “LEGO Connection”: AADL Malletts Creek. A chance for kids grades K–5 to play with the library’s LEGO blocks. 

Mar. 30 (1–2 p.m.): Scratch Off Art: AADL Traverwood. Kids grades K–5 invited to use a scraper tool to reveal hidden colors underneath black scratch art paper and create their own designs.
