“Janet Planet”: Cinetopia International Film Festival

Cinetopia International Film Festival. June 13—23. This Ann Arbor Summer Festival/Cinetopia collaboration features dozens of films—many of them Michigan premieres—screened over 10 days at the Michigan Theater (MI) and State Theatre (State). Includes narrative feature-length films and documentaries that recently premiered at international festivals such as Sundance and Berlin. Tickets $16 (Michigan Theater members, $13); 4-pack, $60 (Michigan Theater members, $45); festival passes, $125-$295 in advance at marquee-arts.org/cinetopia and at the door. The films are listed in order of first screening below. 

June 15 (MI) & 17 (State): “Janet Planet” (Annie Baker, 2024). In 1991 rural western Massachusetts, an 11-year-girl falls out of love with her mother and encounters 3 visitors in acclaimed playwright Baker’s first film, a coming-of-age story. 1:15 p.m. (Sat.) & 7:15 p.m. (Mon.).
