Bitty & Beau’s Coffee, 305 S. Main, was slated to close for renovations October 25, coinciding with the departure of the store manager, according to an email sent to its staff ten days prior. With a tagline “a human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop,” a central aspect of its mission is to employ people with disabilities. Founded in 2016, the North Carolina–based company now lists twenty locations on its website.

The Ann Arbor store opened in 2022 as a franchise, but the renovation announcement came from cofounder Amy Wright, suggesting it’s back in corporate hands. At press time, Wright had not responded to an email inquiry.
