It took four years, but the Jimmy John’s at State just north of Ellsworth is finally open. The city planning commission recommended a proposal to demolish an existing structure and construct a single lane drive-through in April 2013, and city council approved rezoning for the “State Street Center” two months later. Construction on the drive-through building finally began last fall, and the sub shop opened in December.
Cars traveling south on State can reach Jimmy John (and his neighbor Tim Horton) via a dedicated left-hand turn lane just before the Ellsworth traffic circle. That should make it easy for folks looking for a quick bite to find early lunch, late dinner, or anything in between.
