“Lovely door, lovely venue,” writes Suzanne Tainter. October’s “I Spy is the Kerrytown Concert House on 415 N. Fourth Ave.,” writes Rudi Hauleitner. “Great place for small-scale concerts with marvelous acoustics!” he continues. “Looks good on the outside, sounds great on the inside!” agrees A.J. Kydd.

The Kerrytown Concert House opened on Sept. 28, 1984, and while the fortieth anniversary clue was an aid to many, a different anniversary came to mind for Marilyn Knepp. “It took me only one second to identify,” she writes. “My husband and I held our wedding and reception there in September 1985.”

“The house was purchased and renovated by developer Carl Brauer,” writes Dave Bicknell. Kerrytown Concert House “founder and director Deanna Relyea … viewed the space while Brauer was renovating it and developed a plan for the nonprofit performance space.” “This intimate listening space has covered jazz, opera, and classical recitals by students and famed groups,” writes Susan Wineberg, who notes that the historic house retains “many original details.” “It has become one of the Midwest’s premier venues for the live presentation of world-class avant-garde jazz and creative improvised music,” opines David Karl, who also praises its centerpiece Steinway grand piano.

We received twenty-four correct entries. “I have enjoyed many wonderful concerts [at] this fabulous venue!” says our random drawing winner, Elyce Rexer, who will enjoy her gift certificate at Zingerman’s.
