Amos Lee: The Ark/Michigan Theater
Philadelphia-based veteran Americana roots-rock singer-songwriter whose bluesy and misleadingly simple sound has been compared to that of John Prine and Norah Jones. Lee employs classically structured tunes, honeyed yet funky vocals, and subtly complex lyrics to convey everyday emotions without resorting to sentimentalism. Tonight’s show features songs from Transmissions, his forthcoming album which features closely observed lyrics that squarely address death, aging, and love. Opening act is Rochester (NY) folk-flavored pop-rock singer-songwriter Mikaela Davis, who accompanies herself on a harp. 7:30 p.m., Michigan Theater. Tickets $40–$85 in advance at ticketmaster.com and (if available) at the door. (734) 761–1451.
