The Philharmonia performs the overture from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, the 1st movement of Schubert’s unfinished 8th Symphony, Rimsky Korsakov’s Overture on Russian Themes, and “The Walk to the Paradise Garden” from Frederick Delius’s opera A Village Romeo and Juliet. The symphony performs Tchaikovsky’s swelling Romeo and Juliet fantasy overture, Copland’s The Tender Land Suite, and contemporary American composer Carlos Simon’s The Block, a short orchestral piece inspired by 20th-century African American collage artist Romare Bearden’s paintings of Harlem. The Philharmonia performs the overture from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, the 1st movement of Schubert’s unfinished 8th Symphony, Rimsky Korsakov’s Overture on Russian Themes, and “The Walk to the Paradise Garden” from Frederick Delius’s opera A Village Romeo and Juliet. The symphony performs Tchaikovsky’s swelling Romeo and Juliet fantasy overture, Copland’s The Tender Land Suite, and contemporary American composer Carlos Simon’s The Block, a short orchestral piece inspired by 20th-century African American collage artist Romare Bearden’s paintings of Harlem.
