Ken Kiesler directs this music student ensemble in contemporary American composer John Adams’ symphonic foxtrot The Chairman Dances, Sibelius’s grandiose 2nd Symphony, and Chinese American composer Chen Yi’s 1998 Percussion Concerto, a high-energy piece that incorporates Chinese percussion instruments such as gongs, fingerbells, and wood blocks, featuring guest percussion soloist Douglas Perkins.
