U-M Gamelan Ensemble: U-M Music School.:
This popular ensemble of U-M students, staff, and townies performs traditional Indonesian music. A gamelan is an assembly of 50 gongs and metallophones, drums, strings, flutes, xylophone, and singers. The music is a gorgeous concatenation of nonharmonic melodies built on cycles marked by the largest gong and subdivided by the other instruments. Founded in 1966, the U-M's Gamelan Ensemble is one of the oldest in the U.S. 2 p.m., U-M Moore Bldg. Hankinson Rehearsal Hall, 1100 Baits. Mask required. Free. 615–3204., . . . . . .
