Torrey Peters: U-M English Department Zell Visiting Writers Series.:

This acclaimed NYC-based novelist and short fiction writer reads from and discusses her work. Her bestselling 2021 debut novel Detransition, Baby was nominated for the Women’s Prize for Fiction, making Peters the first openly trans woman nominated for the award. Her stories frequently place multiple trans women into a conventional domestic narrative, allowing them to converse with each other, and eliciting a nuanced examination of trans life in America while avoiding the usual self-empowerment cliches. Followed by a Q&A. Also, tomorrow Peters gives a free talk on “Household Gods and Hobgoblins of the Little Mind: Questions of Audience—Both Real and Imagined” (1011 a.m., 3222 Angell Hall). 5:30–6:30 p.m., UMMA Stern Auditorium, 525 S. State. Livestream available for both programs at tinyurl.com/ZellWriters. Free, but capacity limited. asbates@umich.edu.
