“The Fourth Messenger”: Off-Leash Arts.
Giovanni René Rodriguez and award-winning Ann Arbor-based playwright Tanya Shaffer direct a concert performance of Shaffer and indie singer-songwriter Vienna Teng’s musical, a reimagining of the Buddha story featuring a flawed female Buddha figure. The San Francisco Chronicle calls it “an exciting and ambitious project, driven by Teng’s eclectic score, Shaffer’s inspired rewrites of the Buddha story, and their punchy, provocative lyrics.” Stars NYC musical theater veteran Anna Ishida, a member of the play’s original San Francisco Bay Area cast.
