“The Americas!”: Ann Arbor Concert Band
David Leach conducts this 75-member band in the opening concert of its 47th season in a program featuring music of the Americas, including, from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Brant Karrick’s fugue “Bayou Breakdown,” Oscar Navarro’s percussive and vibrant “Libertadores,” and, with an accompanying slideshow, Willard Zirk’s “29 Bells,” a work dedicated to the memory of the 29 sailors who perished aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975, along with other works. A preconcert talk by composer Zirk begins at 1 p.m. 2 p.m., Michigan Theater. Tickets $10–$15 (kids under age 14, free) in advance at marquee-arts.org/live-events & at the door.
