“Swift Nights Out”: Washtenaw Audubon Society.:
Aug. 19–21. All invited to view chimney swifts gathering at dusk and count them as they enter chimneys. Sometimes you have to count by 5’s, 10’s and 20’s, they drop so fast, all in a swirling tornado of birds. Participants choose a known roosting location and report back to WAS organizers. If you know of an active roost that’s not listed, email Juliet Berger (firstname.lastname@example.org), and she will add it to the sign-up. Part of a national effort to monitor the migration of this bird and learn its favorite chimneys for overnight roosting. 8 p.m. until the last swift descends into its chimney, for locations, preregister at washtenawaudubon.org/events.
