(Otto Preminger, 1944). Film noir about a NYC detective investigating the murder of a beautiful young advertising executive who begins to fall in love with the dead woman. The film “weaves a spell,” according to the late Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert, despite the “absurdities and improbabilities” of its plot.
