“Hands on a Hardbody”: Penny Seats Theatre Company.:
Every Thurs.–Sat., Aug. 11–26. Lauren M. London directs this 2012 country-&-western musical based on a 1997 documentary about ten contestants vying to win a “hardbody” truck in Longview, Texas by keeping their hands on the truck the longest. During this endurance contest, they reveal aspects of their lives. A New York Times reviewer wrote that the musical “sings sincerely and with a rough-edged humor of the dusty margins of American life” and features a “wry, economical book” by Doug Wright.
