South African-born English violinist Daniel Hope appears with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra in a concert that explores the roots and distinctive qualities of American music. With arrangements by Paul Bateman for solo violin with various classical and jazz ensembles, the program ranges from Aaron Copland’s “Hoe-Down” and Duke Ellington’s “Come Sunday” to pioneering early 20th-century African American composer Florence Price’s Adoration and Philip Glass’s Echorus. Preceded at 5:30 p.m. by a prelude dinner ($75) in the Michigan League with remarks by U-M musicology professor Mark Clague. 8 p.m., Hill Auditorium.
