Ark: The Small Glories

New duo from Winnipeg's always vital folk scene. JD Edwards and Cara Luft (formerly of the Wailin' Jennys) offer soaring, anthemic melodies underlaid by combinations of clawhammer banjo, guitar, and harmonica. "Perhaps The Small Glories need to rename themselves," says No Depression in response to their CD Assiniboine & The Red, "the songs on this album are certainly large and wash over us with a powerful beauty that pulls at our hearts." $20. Blue LLama: Andy Milne & Unison
