CD release party for Back Into It by this all-star ensemble led by guitarist-organist Darrin James whose music mixes elements of funk, jazz, afrobeat, rock, and blues. "Delicious soul-funk, innovative and brisk…played with fervent passion and oodles of sonic heat," says Blogcritics.com writer Randall Radik. With trumpeter Ross Huff, saxophonists Dan Bennett & Tim Haldeman, keyboardist Josef Deas, and percussionist Randall Moore fronting a rhythm section of bassist Brennan Andes and drummer Rob Avsharian. Openers: Scotty Karate, one-man postpunk honky-tonk rock 'n' roll band from Chelsea who also has a new CD (Always Honey), and Disaster Relief frontman Darrin James. $10.
Blue LLama: Diego Rivera Quartet
Ensemble led by this MSU music professor, a saxophonist-composer known for his muscular tone and blending of straight-ahead jazz with music inspired by his Latino heritage.

An eclectic mix of rock 'n' roll, Motown, blues, soul, R&B, progressive rock, and swing by this ensemble of veteran local musicians fronted by singer-flutist Patty O'Connor. With guitarist and harmonica player Myron Grant, guitarist Kip Godwin, keyboardist Mark Wight, bassist Terry Gordinier, drummer John Marion, and Charles Dayringer on congas, clarinet, and sax. .
