""Cassandra Speaks: When Women are the Storytellers, The Human Story Changes", by Elizabeth Lesser: A Book Study": Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

community member   < less OLLI Study Group

Join us for a lively discussion of the book "Cassandra Speaks: When Women Tell the Stories, the Human Story Changes", by Elizabeth Lesser. Part One explores the myths and stories that are in the DNA of our culture. Part Two looks at women and power and redefines what it means to be courageous, daring, and strong. And Part Three offers "A Toolbox for Inner Strength."
Written in a fun and delightful way, Lesser points out many truths about how out of balance the United States is, and also believes in humanity's potential to rise to the challenges of our times. Women must be a big part of this. Instructors Bernadette Beach and Sigrid Herman will lead this Study Group.
This study group will meet on Mondays for six weeks beginning on October 25. Preregistration is required via the OLLI website or phone. A link to access the study group will be e-mailed prior to the first session.
This Study Group will be online. Online. $35. 734-998-9351. Olli.info@umich.edu https://www.olli-umich.org

"Our Unending Civil War": Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (50+).

community member   < less Study Group

This Study Group will be online.
This course offers a look at the struggle between those who support the founding ideals of "political equality, natural rights, and the sovereignty of the people" and those who cling to notions of the superiority of white people and the natural inferiority and inequality of black people, Native Americans, women, Asians, and all non-European immigrants.
We will examine the paradox of our Founding, the creation of a white society that resulted in Civil War, the Myth of the Lost Cause that emerged from that war, and the role the West has played in sustaining the Southern Myth.
Ken Pfifer leads this course on Wednesdays October 27 through November 17 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. He holds a MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. He served several Unitarian Universalist congregations over half a century.
Preregistration is required via the OLLI website or phone. A link to access the study group will be e-mailed prior to the first session.

"Dwelling Place- Memory and Celebration at Agricole"

community member   < less Dwelling Places

Please join us for a community art project remembering those people, things, and experiences we have lost.
The past 20 months of the pandemic have resulted in tremendous social and personal changes combined for many of us with complicated and storied feelings of loss, grief, and solitude. This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to join with others in-person to construct a "dwelling place" or memory niche to honor, celebrate, and remember important people and events in our lives. This in-person building event can be combined with the online planning session. Please register for the online planning session separately at https://tinyurl.com/vr6rf6e3. Because of space constraints, in-person building workshop will be capped at 20 participants.
Agricole, 118 N Main St, Chelsea, MI 48118, Chelsea. Donation. $15. 734-272-8615. curiouserexperiences@gmail.com https://tinyurl.com/nzk9fc8a [map]
