This Study Group will be online.
The University of Michigan Library holds an extraordinary collection of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts in various languages, mostly in Greek and Latin, and ranging from the fourth to the sixteenth centuries. Being actively used for teaching and research, these manuscripts are unique witnesses of the intellectual and artistic endeavors of a given community living in a particular time and place.
In this presentation, we will examine some highlights from the collection, each manuscript containing a text that illustrates a distinctive feature of medieval and Renaissance culture, including topics such as religion, astronomy, medicine, music, and literature.
Pablo Alvarez leads this course on Friday September 17 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Preregistration is required via the OLLI website or phone. A link to access the study group will be e-mailed prior to the first session.
