"Contemporary Dance": A2 Aviary.

This contemporary dance class combines movement techniques from a variety of dance traditions like ballet, Hawkins, Humphrey, and other modern dance styles to create a unique and fun movement experience. Each week has a theme with appropriate warm-up exercises that prepare students for a choreographed dance combination. Movement material will build from week to week, allowing dancers to build their dance skills! We may delve into floor work and weight sharing/partnering, depending on the comfort level of students in the class.
Participants should wear layers and be prepared to dance in bare feet (dance shoes are okay too!). This class is open to all levels. Please sign up via the Aviary's website, class size is limited! =)

"Street Dance": A2 Aviary.

In this fast pace rhythmic class, students will learn body control and techniques as they learn street dance styles such as popping, tutting, waving, animation and beginner breaking (break-dance). Beginners will gain the foundation they need to grow, while more advanced students will find the challenge of personal style, foundation refinement, choreography, and battling.
Each class begins with a 15 minute warm-up, please bring clean sneakers/tennis shoes. It is strongly recommended that students are able to lift their arms over heads. Class size is limited, all students must register via the included link to be guaranteed a spot in class. =)

"Aerial Boot Camp": A2 Aviary.

This an all-levels instructor-guided conditioning circuit class is perfect for new aerialists, experienced flyers as a supplement to their current training, or for any folx who are interested in a new and exciting way to exercise. We will focus on building strength, alignment, flexibility, and technique with progressive training in the air and on the floor. Students will develop the core and upper body muscle groups needed for all aerial apparatuses and will learn exercises and spotting techniques to practice on their own. Absolute beginners of any (or no) athletic background highly encouraged! Please register via website, class size is limited. =)

"Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do": Dawn Farm.

"Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a FREE, ongoing, two-part series. Part 1 provides information about teen substance use, including signs and patterns of a substance use problem. Part 2 has break-out sessions for adults to learn strategies to effectively help when teen substane use is suspected or identified, and for teens to explore the personal effects of substance use. Part 2 ends with adults and young people together hearing a talk by a young person in recovery from a substance use disorder. The series is presented by Dawn Farm Youth and Family Services therapists, and co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Ann Arbor Public Schools, the WISD/LESA Health Educators' Learning Network and Saint Joe's Greenbrook Recovery Center. The series is inclusive of parents/guardians, teens, other family members, professionals and students - all are welcome. Free, open to all, registration is not required.

Grr, argh! Stiff joints and tight muscles got you feeling like a zombie? Join us for this gentle, introductory class for absolute beginners! This class is especially for desk bound folks who know they should stretch more, but just aren't finding the motivation to do so on their own. Discover your inner bendiness with poses to increase flexibility, especially in the hips and legs, and spend time cultivating core strength and playing with balance. Students will have the opportunity to try both a horizontal apparatus (lyra or trapeze) or a vertical apparatus (sling or silks) in each class. "Eurythmy Movement Series": Great Lakes Anthroposophy.

Eurythmy is a contemporary movement practice that brings mindfulness, felt sense and movement together. In this series we will explore themes related to expanding our awareness of space and shared humanity. All are welcome and no experience is necessary. Our teacher, Claudia Fontana has been practicing and teaching Eurythmy for over thirty years internationally and locally. The WINTER 2020 SIX WEEK SERIES will take place on Wednesday Evenings 6:15 - 7:15 p.m. starting January 8, 2020 and costs $90 for the series. "Flexitortion": A2 Aviary.

This 75-minute class can take your flexibility from basic warming up stretching to beginning contortion poses. Come increase your bendy power, learn to prevent injuries through safe stretching, breathe, and stretch in a supportive environment. All levels are welcome, as students train at their own pace with instructor guidance. We will focus on safely exploring your limits through proper warming techniques and mat exercises to take home. It is strongly recommended that this class be taken as your final physical activity of the day, and not as a warm-up for other activities. "Hand Balance": A2 Aviary.

Would you like to turn the world upside down while remaining on the ground? Or perhaps you have some handstand experience but want to learn new tips and tricks? This all-levels class will focus on alignment, flexibility, and strength, as well as covering spotting, falling, breath, and subtle adjustment. Returning students will be working on progressively more challenging poses and transitions. Each class includes 15-20 minutes of warm-up and stretching, followed by exercises designed to improve strength and flexibility in the wrists, shoulders, and core, as well as practice with spotters. PREREQ: students must be able to reach overhead and perform beginning inversions like downward facing dog. Please register via the Aviary's website, class size is limited. =)

"Youth Intro to Aerial Arts": A2 Aviary.

Designed for youth students (ages 8-17) who are absolute beginners to the aerial arts, each class begins with a fun yet challenging warm-up to prepare to fly the friendly skies of The Ann Arbor Aviary! Youth instructors will introduce your child to the flexibility, grip, and balance used while on the aerial apparatus, as well as how to engage the muscles needed to stay safe in the air. Students will have the opportunity to try both a horizontal apparatus (lyra or trapeze) and a vertical apparatus (sling or silks) in each class. Strength, flexibility, or previous athletic experience is not a requirement to begin and enjoy this class!
PREREQS: Students new to the Aviary must have a parent or legal guardian present on their first day. The guardian does not have to stay for the duration of the lesson but must be present to meet the instructor on the first day. All students must be signed up for class before arriving to the studio, please register via the Aviary's website.

In this 90 minute all-levels class, you will learn new skills and have the opportunity to string them together in upbeat, fun choreography. Beginners will work on building strength and safe pole dancing form, we will explore the creativity of this vertical dance form. Students with more experience will be training inversions, more complex spins and poses, partner pole dancing, and so much more!
