Diabetes Personal Action Toward Health Leadership Training: National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

Help people with diabetes live healthier lives! The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) seeks leaders for their Diabetes Personal Action Toward Health (DPATH) workshops. The multi-day DPATH Leadership Training will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28; Wednesday, October 30; Monday, November 4 and Wednesday, November 6 at the NKFM main office, 1169 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. PATH is an interactive 6-week workshop where two leaders facilitate a group of people learning to manage their diabetes. Coaches support participants by providing information, encouraging progress, and working interactively with the group. Teaching experience is not needed, but participants must attend all four days of training. There is no charge for the training but leaders must commit to facilitating one workshop in the next year. "CARES presents Caring for You Caring for Me": Jewish Family Services.

Join CARES for a unique, no-cost group which aims to educate and support professional and family caregivers in a relaxed setting. Facilitated by a licensed master social worker, the group will follow a well-established curriculum known to improve the well-being of caregivers.
Specific Topics Covered:
• What it means to be a caregiver
• Taking care of yourself
• Building cooperative relationships
• Preventing and solving problems
• Accessing and developing resources
Participants will learn ways to cope with the stresses and strains of being a caregiver and about resources available locally, regionally and nationally. Group members will have the opportunity to learn from and support one another, share common concerns and promote solutions to everyday caregiving challenges.

This an all-levels instructor-guided conditioning circuit class is perfect for new aerialists, experienced flyers as a supplement to their current training, or for any folx who are interested in a new and exciting way to exercise. We will focus on building strength, alignment, flexibility, and technique with progressive training in the air and on the floor. Students will develop the core and upper body muscle groups needed for all aerial apparatuses and will learn exercises and spotting techniques to practice on their own. Absolute beginners of any (or no) athletic background highly encouraged! Please register via website, class size is limited. =)

Canceled: "Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do": Dawn Farm.

"Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a FREE, ongoing, two-part series. Part 1 provides information about teen substance use, including signs and patterns of a substance use problem. Part 2 has break-out sessions for adults to learn strategies to effectively help when teen substane use is suspected or identified, and for teens to explore the personal effects of substance use. Part 2 ends with adults and young people together hearing a talk by a young person in recovery from a substance use disorder. The series is presented by Dawn Farm Youth and Family Services therapists, and co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Ann Arbor Public Schools, the WISD/LESA Health Educators' Learning Network and Saint Joe's Greenbrook Recovery Center. The series is inclusive of parents/guardians, teens, other family members, professionals and students - all are welcome. Free, open to all, registration is not required.

Beginning Pole Dance: A2 Aviary.

Twirling, dancing, and climbing a pole - what more can you ask for? In this 90 minute class, you will learn beginning pole skills and have the opportunity to string them together in upbeat, fun choreography. With an emphasis on building strength and safe pole dancing form, we will explore the creativity of this vertical dance form. You will also learn how to set up and break down the X-Poles, so that you will be able to use them when you are cleared for open gym.
Please wear shorts (feel free to bring layers to stay warm) and avoid wearing lotion or jewelry to this class.
