"Stories from the Amazon Camp": Wild Swan Theater.

community member   < less girl in funny hat

Wild Swan Theater drama camps are fun experiences where kids can feel safe and comfortable exploring the imaginative world of theater. Our main goal is that every camper has a great time cultivating their creativity and leaves camp feeling successful. With a new theme every week, activities will include warm-ups, theater games, and improvisations that bring people together in a nurturing, memorable way. This week's theme: Join us as we enter the world of the Brazilian Rainforest. Together we will make masks and instruments, create soundscapes, explore stories and movement of the rainforest, and bring this magical part of the world to life! (For students ages 6 - 10)

"Retracing Steps of Detroit's '67 Rebellion: An OLLI Day Trip": Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) - 50+.

community member   < less Out of Town

Join us on this day-long journey in Detroit which will put you in touch with the circumstances and sites in the city's long history that contributed to the events that arose on July 23, 1967.
The tour will take us to Campus Martius Park where the focus will be on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Relatively nearby is the early site of the city jail where, in 1833, a Wayne County sheriff was killed in a slavery-related confrontation. The tour will touch on the former black neighborhoods of Paradise Valley and Black Bottom and their demise.
A stop will be made at the site of the Algiers Motel incident as well as Clairmont Avenue and 12th Street where the uprising broke out. A stop will also be at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary, where the statue of Jesus was painted black in 1967.
You must register early for the trip and there are no refunds without replacements.
Please see the OLLI Web Site for additional information.
Meet at Meijer's, 3825 Carpenter Rd. $73 - Includes bus transportation, lunch, snacks and gratuities.. 734-998-9351. olli.info@umich.edu. https://www.olli-umich.org/ [map]
