Morning Tai-Chi: Sun Shen.

  community member   < less

Happiness is not a circumstance, it is a cultivation. When you practice Tai-Chi, you get to know a part of you that was hidden and you have been looking for all of your life: the power and potential that your mind and body are really capable of. Classes are held Monday through Friday, 7am to 8:30am. See if it is a right fit for you--enjoy your first week of class for free. Contact Sifu Joseph Wang at info@sunshen.org or (734) 531-8796 for more information.

 5:45 p.m.

"Suspension-Extension Coyopa Yoga": Mota Thai Yoga.

  community member   < less

Yoga--unlike other yoga class you've taken before. This high intensity class uses straps (similar to TRX) to stretch muscles that can be difficult to stretch in other exercises. Class starts with some stretching, and once the body warms up, begins to pick up the pace. You will work on a flow sequence that will get the heart rate up. The straps are used to help balance and stretch deeper (and safely) into yoga postures. Usually you will feel the stretches in your tighter/weakest muscles first. Your first couple classes may be intense, but if you continue to come to this class, you will notice big changes! This class can help build strength, relieve pain, release tension, increase flexibility, and prevent injury. The studio will be heated between 90-95 degrees for this class, so bring a water bottle. Your first class at the studio is free!
You can park in the studio's parking lot for free. Same parking lot as the Yellow Barn. Look for the #22 blue door with a red buddha on it.

"AIReal Yoga: Core Power": Ringstar Studio.

  community member   < less

AIReal Yoga is real yoga, practiced with the assistance of a "silk" hammock. Not to be confused with its circus counterpart, practitioners breathe, stretch, and strengthen just as you would in a ground-based practice, while taking advantage of deeper stretches and unique poses.
Gymnastic flexibility, ahtletic strength, and master yogi-level experience not required. You can even enjoy AIReal Yoga even if you can't touch your toes and you've never attended a regular yoga class before.
This special one-time offering will focus on poses that strengthen and tone the core muscles of the torso. While it is an intense physical practice, the poses are accessible to people at any level of ability. No previous experience necessary.
Class sizes are very small- maximum of 6 people- so online preregistration is required.
Weekly classes are also available. See our schedule for details.

The ancient practice of Insight meditation is a simple and direct form of inner inquiry that looks deeply at our situation right now, just as it is. As we continue to watch, we see more and more, which naturally leads to profound effects over time. As we cultivate a kindhearted awareness, we begin to uncover the wisdom and compassion that is at our essence, as well as the habitual patterns of thinking and behavior that cause pain and suffering. As we mindfully work with these habits from our new perspective, we gradually become calmer and better able to deal effectively with negativity in ourselves and others.
