Morning Tai-Chi: Sun Shen.

  community member   < less

Happiness is not a circumstance, it is a cultivation. When you practice Tai-Chi, you get to know a part of you that was hidden and you have been looking for all of your life: the power and potential that your mind and body are really capable of. Classes are held Monday through Friday, 7am to 8:30am. See if it is a right fit for you--enjoy your first week of class for free. Contact Sifu Joseph Wang at info@sunshen.org or (734) 531-8796 for more information.

"Suspension-Extension Coyopa Yoga": Mota Thai Yoga.

  community member   < less

Yoga--unlike other yoga class you've taken before. This high intensity class uses straps (similar to TRX) to stretch muscles that can be difficult to stretch in other exercises. Class starts with some stretching, and once the body warms up, begins to pick up the pace. You will work on a flow sequence that will get the heart rate up. The straps are used to help balance and stretch deeper (and safely) into yoga postures. Usually you will feel the stretches in your tighter/weakest muscles first. Your first couple classes may be intense, but if you continue to come to this class, you will notice big changes! This class can help build strength, relieve pain, release tension, increase flexibility, and prevent injury. The studio will be heated between 90-95 degrees for this class, so bring a water bottle. Your first class at the studio is free!
You can park in the studio's parking lot for free. Same parking lot as the Yellow Barn. Look for the #22 blue door with a red buddha on it.

"#HikingMyFeelings: Healing Your Mind and Body on the Trail"

community member   < less Hiking My Feelings

After surviving two of the hardest years of her life, Sydney Williams was standing in an REI dressing room trying on hiking gear for her first backpacking trip. Looking back in the mirror was a woman (and body) she didn't recognize. She looked herself in the eye and simply asked, "GIRL, how did we get here?" It was a rhetorical question for the dressing room, but two thru-hikes across Catalina Island helped Williams establish the mind-body connection that was necessary for her to be able to face her trauma head-on and leave everything on the trail. The first hike on the Trans-Catalina Trail was the hardest physical challenge Williams had ever tackled; it taught her how to love her body, and reminded her that she could do hard things. Nine months before her second journey, she was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. By the time she hiked the island the second time, Williams was 60 pounds lighter. What would be possible if the hike itself wasn't the hard part? The second hike was a complet

The journey to the center represents going deep within the self on the way to revelation or enlightenment. "Crystal Singing Bowl Sound Healing": Verapose Yoga & Meditation House.

community member   < less Crystal singing bowls

As we greet the sunrise together, with still minds and open hearts, our awareness of nature and subtle energies is heightened. Plugging into nature, and the circadian rhythms of the planet through the power of sound is essential to our wellbeing, where in a state of total relaxation, healing and connection to a higher consciousness can take place. We can then approach the day ahead with a more open heart and calm mind, while simultaneously being a bright light to the folks in our life.
The sound healing, is a sound meditation or sound bath, that begins with each person lying down in a comfortable position, often with a blanket and an eye mask. After a few minutes of guided focus on the breath, the remainder of the experience is filled with various sounds, tones, and frequencies being introduced in succession.
Duration 60 minutes.
