“Little Trees, Big Impact: 10th Anniversary Celebration”: Ann Arbor Bonsai Society
June 1–30. Month-long celebration of the Matthaei Bonsai Garden’s 10th year, with themed weeks, pop-up pruning demos in the garden, family-friendly activities, and workshops for all levels (June 17 & 18, see website for information). June 17 (1–4 p.m.): Bonsai Expert Demonstrations. Well-known Japanese Satsuki experts Hiroharu Kobayashi and Yoichi Fukudan demonstrate their work with hearty Satsuki azaleas on the Matthaei commons. June 24 (10 a.m.–noon): Basics of Bonsai for Families. Kids ages 7–14 invited with their families to explore the bonsai collection, learn about the art, and practice some simple techniques themselves. Preregistration required. June 25 (12:30–2 p.m.): Bonsai Stories for Families. Kids ages 7–14 invited with their families to write and illustrate stories inspired by the bonsai collection. $8/kid, preregistration required. Hot Days, Cool Art Exhibit & Sale: The PARC Art Gallery
The PARC Art Gallery connects the public with local SE Michigan artists. It is a gallery created by artists for artists and the community. This current show shares the eclectic work of 28 artists and showcases 54 pieces. The art ranges from realism, abstract, expressionism, fine art photography, pottery and more. Through August 15. The gallery is open 7 days a week from 10am to 9pm. There are special hours during a holiday.
Come and visit the gallery, stroll through the wonderful works of art and, if you fall in love, purchase something beautiful for your home.
The best entrance to see the show is via the main parking lot entrance (Door 24/Activities Entrance). The hallway to the left of this entrance is the gallery space.

This class is very supportive and beneficial, assisting you in finding mobility and strength at any age or level. Maintaining balance and flexibility is essential for your health and well-being. Paula will begin each class with a short meditation, offer a drop of essential oil and then flow into gentle yoga bends, twists, and stretches to assist in relieving tension and stress. See you in the chair every Tuesday morning at 11 for one hour of your self-love practice.

“Top of the Park”: Ann Arbor Summer Festival
See 9 Friday. Tonight: complimentary bike tuneups (6–8 p.m.) by Wheels in Motion bike mechanics on the Ingalls Mall. In the Kidzone: bubbles & drawing (5 p.m.) with Riverside Arts Center staff. On the Power Center Lawn: Jazzercise (5:30 p.m.), a full body workout which combines cardio dance, cardio-boxing, Pilates, yoga, and strength training. In the Annex tent: a community council conversation (5 p.m.) on the need for local creative spaces, followed by an improvised music jam. On the O&W Grove Stage: local folk-rock singer-songwriter Ceolsige (5 p.m.), and Ki5 (6 p.m.), an Ann Arbor native who layers vocals and beatbox rhythms to create elaborate digital loops. On the Rackham Stage: John Holk & the Sequins (6 p.m.), a Ferndale honky-tonk–inspired psychedelic country band fronted by Ann Arbor native John Holkeboer, and Tank and the Bangas (8:15 p.m.), a New Orleans-based ensemble that plays a fun and unpredictably eclectic blend of soul, funk, jazz, rock, and hip-hop. The music is followed at 10 p.m. by a screening of This Is Spinal Tap, Rob Reiner’s pitch-perfect 1984 mockumentary about a fictional English heavy metal band. 5 p.m.–midnight.

The Moth StorySLAM: Michigan Radio
Open mic storytelling competition sponsored by The Moth, the NYC-based nonprofit storytelling organization. Ten storytellers are selected at random from among those who sign up to tell a 3- to 5-minute story on the theme “Unexpected.” Stories are judged by a 3-person team recruited from the audience.
