U-M Museum of Natural History Planetarium & Dome Theater.
Daily. Three different audiovisual planetarium shows suitable for all ages. Expedition Reef (12:30 p.m.) reveals the secrets of the “rainforests of the sea,” the world’s most vibrant and endangered marine ecosystems. The Sky Tonight (1:30 & 3:30 p.m.) is an exploration of the current night sky, with tips on how to find the cardinal directions, constellations, and planets on your own. Tales of the Maya Skies (2:30 p.m.) immerses viewers in the wonders of Mayan science, examining how Maya scholars developed a sophisticated understanding of astronomy, architecture, and mathematics that enabled them to predict solstices, solar eclipses, weather patterns, and planetary movements. “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”: Father Gabriel Richard High School Dramalums.
Aug. 4–7. Elizabeth Champion directs Gabriel Richard students and recent grads in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s popular 1973 rock musical based on the biblical story of Joseph. The favorite son of the prophet Jacob, Joseph was sold into slavery by his envious brothers but rose to become one of the Pharaoh’s key insiders. The People’s Parade, a partnership with The Planet Parade, aims to bring together representatives from multiple social movements, for a community-embracing rally and march. The People’s Parade is an attempt to shingle a single roof above our overlapping dreams and persecution—getting all the causes together on the street to meet and march and scheme and dream together!
Attendees are encouraged to bring signs, dress in costume, and pets are welcome! There will be speakers and performance artists before and after the parade. Invite friends!
