Music director Earl Lee conducts the A2SO and the UMS Choral Union in Mahler’s massive and moving 90-minute Resurrection Symphony, first performed in 1895. Known for its difficulty as well as the breadth and drama of its emotional expression, the symphony reflects Mahler’s belief in redemption and an afterlife. It includes settings of Klopstock’s 18th-century hymn “Die Auferstehung (The Resurrection)” and the German folk poem “Urlicht (Primeval Light).” Guest soloists are acclaimed South African soprano Vuvu Mpofu, and Susan Platts, a Canadian mezzo-soprano known for her Mahler performances. Performed in German with surtitles. Preconcert talk at 7 p.m. 8 p.m., Hill Auditorium. Tickets $25–$90 in advance at a2so.com & by calling 994–4801, and at the door.
