World Premieres by Grey Grant: Vanguard Reed Quintet
In this concert, the audience will experience contemporary classical chamber music performed by the oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet, and bassoon. Vanguard will be premiering two works by Michigan-based composer Grey Grant: Futch, a hypersonic baroque original work for reed quintet; and There Was a Mystic Reality We Lived in Once, an arrangement of their ethereal saxophone quartet. Also on the program are two nature-based works: selections from Marc Mellits' Splinter, whose minimalistic-like movements are each inspired by a tree; and Thaw by Beck Turro is inspired by their trip to Acadia National Park. Closing the program is an arrangement of a suite from Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera, with music inspired by 1920s jazz and European dances.
Purchase a ticket here to either attend the show in person at the First Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti, or join us online for the livestream, courtesy of Sly Pup Productions! Livestream link will be provided closer to the event. You can also livestream ticket to view our concert on-demand up until a week after the show! The livestream will be archived for you to view on your own time until October 4.
