"Les Caractères de la Danse": Les Délices (Academy of Early Music).

Ann Arbor Observer tree logo   < less

Daily in Nov. Founded by Handel & Haydn Society (Boston) baroque oboist Debra Nagy, this acclaimed Cleveland-based quartet is known for programs the New York Times calls "thematically concise, richly expressive, and featuring composers few people have heard of." Tonight's prerecorded program of French Baroque music written for dancing includes Rebel's Les Caractères de la Danse, a scene from Rameau's Pigmalion, solo suites for oboe and viol by Philidor and Marais, and the earthy, rollicking dances of Boismortier's Ballets de Village.
Available online anytime from 7 a.m. Nov. 1 through 11 p.m. Nov. 30 at AcademyOfEarlyMusic.org. Free. 228-4338.

12 to 24 months & an Adult. Welcome to the world of the one year old! We will gather outside each week to sing, play and move with other families and same-age peers. Spending time outdoors in a social and active setting during late fall is good for the soul. Class begins with open-ended time on the playground in a safe, controlled environment with families who are mindful of social distancing and weekly, self-health screenings. A train-themed circle time will move to a grassy, fenced-in area adjacent to the playground. The train whistle signals the arrival in the station and for us to get up and be active while practicing important gross motor skills like walking backwards, marching, jumping and moving to the beat. New and familiar songs and props are shared during this circle time. Class will include an interactive story and brief discussions on developmental milestones specific to one year olds.

4 to 18 months & an Adult. This newly-designed class is a combination of two of our longest-running classes, Curious WiggleWorms and Fun at One. We gather outside each week to sing, play and move on the playground and in the grassy, fenced-in area adjacent to the playground. Circle time includes a routine of music, nursery rhymes, stories and more. Families bring a picnic blanket and lunch to eat during our discussions. This combination class focuses on developmental milestones and topics relevant to this age group and the unique challenges of 2020. Sharing the joys and challenges with others is especially important in the middle of this pandemic and being outside in late Fall is good for the soul. Adults are expected to wear masks except while eating. In the event of inclement weather, we will meet virtually via Zoom. Instructor: Bonnie Kerber. 6 classes. Scholarship recipients pay $10.
