"Stop in, say hi!"
From the December, 2018 issue
The Graduate Hotel chain has rebranded its coffee bars as Poindexter Coffee. The general manager of the hotel on Huron, Jason Nelson, says that they've added new breakfast sandwiches (available all day), plus beer and wine. The design of the lobby cafe remains the same, though a hanging velvet letter board now announces its alcoholic offerings.
Why Poindexter (often understood as retro slang for a nerd)? "I've asked that same question as well," Nelson says. "I think our owners just liked the name!"
Nelson hopes the cafe will bring in more students and locals. He says the cafe and the lobby's long wooden library-style table are not just for hotel guests. "Stop in, say hi!" he says. "It's an open community hotel."
