Heather Sager-Allen, and her husband Scott Allen, live in Ann Arbor’s Eberwhite neighborhood–just a football’s toss from the Big House. Together with Heather’s ten-year-old son Sebastian, the trio lives in a home Heather’s familiar with.

In a happy twist of fate, Heather bought the house in which a childhood girlfriend grew up. Two other close relatives live just houses away, making Eberwhite a homecoming for the Ann Arborite.

This part of the Eberwhite district was developed in the ’50s. Heather’s grandfather bought one of the first homes constructed by developer Walter Van Dusen. Now she lives on Van Dusen.

“I love it,” Heather says. “I like this because you can stay in the nook and then you can avoid the congestion of Washtenaw.” Of area residents, Heather adds, “Once they get here, they stay here.”

Eberwhite’s conveniences are within a quick walk or bike. “We can do downtown, go to Arbor Farms Market or Washtenaw Dairy,” notes Scott. “Our amenities are nearby. You can get your suburbia and downtown without getting in your car.”

According to Scott a typical summer evening on their block goes something like this: “Everyone gets home at five or six, and the kids are outside playing. And then there’s a cool, easy, quick conversation that takes place on someone’s sidewalk. There’s no other place we’d rather be.”
