Lid over N. Main?

Question Corner: May 2019

by Tim Athan

From the May, 2019 issue

Q. Has the city ever considered a "lid" over the North Main Corridor? This would hide the road and provide new territory for riverside developments, like New York's Hudson Yards.

A. Lids are incredibly costly--New York City's infrastructure cost alone at Hudson Yards was $3.5 billion. Ryan Tobias of TreeDownTown.com emails that a Main St. lid "would probably be prohibitively expensive especially considering you would probably have to bury Main Street first."     (end of article)
