Lan City Noodles
Opens on S. University
From the October, 2021 issue
Lan City Noodles, the Washtenaw Ave. spot in Ypsilanti known for hand-made noodles and other dishes from Lanzhou, China, has opened a second location on South University.
The restaurant has taken over the University Towers spot previously home to Social House and Leo's Coney Island.
Owner Soon Heng Gin didn't respond to our request for an interview. A manager reached by phone said the shop was short-staffed, didn't need any more customers at the moment, and requested that the Observer not write about it.
In a 2018 review of the Ypsilanti shop, though, writer Lee Lawrence extolled the fun of watching the noodles being made and the fragrant bowls of soup that passed by.
And the Observer's Jim Manheim raved in a social media post about the shop's laksa noodles, which are among a wide variety of dishes that feature hand-made noodles which are stretched into shape, as well as knife-cut noodles, in which the dough is quickly sliced to individual strands.
