Fake Ad: December 2020
by Jay Forstner
From the January, 2021 issue
We received nearly 300 entries correctly identifying the Fake Ad for Corn/Meal on page 38 of the December issue.
"Sowback Road caught my attention," wrote Kathy Bonds. "Very funny play on Hogback. Also, the incorporation of the last winner in 'twang.' Very clever. By the way, my husband and I met through one of your personal ads in 1996. We were engaged in 4 months. Have now been together almost 25 years." Wonderful story, and one very familiar to the Fake Ad Czar: he and the Czarina met through an Observer personal ad in the 90s as well. But you'd know that if you'd read The Fake Ad Book. And if you haven't, you should order it now at 'AnnArborObserver.com
The Fake Ad for a southern cookbook caught Timothy Cheek's eye, "because I had been craving okra and chicken fried steak! I was actually disappointed when the website didn't work. Once again, very clever."
One Fake Adder entered with an ulterior motive. "I hope I win the drawing in part because I'd love the gift certificate, but mostly because I'd love to see you figure out how to get my name into a Fake Ad!" wrote Theresa Braunschneider. That would be a challenge, but we can tell you it would involve liverwurst, as all the best things in life do.
Speaking of challenging last names, this month's winner is Samantha Brdek. She's taking her gift certificate to TeaHaus.
