Two businesses in the Courtyard Shops on Plymouth Rd. have closed their doors. The Wild Side Smoke Shop left its Dupper-level storefront in February, after ten years under the bright red awning. A new bubble tea and juice purveyor, CoCo, is soon to open in its place. Below, Midwest Bike & Tandem, known for owner Joel Hakken’s handmade bicycles, closed its doors in March. Hakken has moved his business to Brighton, where he’ll be operating out of Hometown Bicycles.

Larry’s Mower Shop on Jackson Rd. closed last fall. When competitor and national chain Weingartz moved in down the road in 2011, Larry’s owner Bob Blakeman expressed concern to the Ann Arbor News but had hoped to differentiate his store by stressing quality repair and customer service. We were unable to reach Blakeman for comment.

VinBar, the W. Liberty collaboration of three Traverse City wineries, closed its doors in March. A posting on its Facebook page announced, “It has been an incredible 5 years and we will dearly miss our loyal customers and beautiful old west side community.”
