Community Action Network (CAN) will host its 5th annual golf outing on Saturday, August 25th. This event will raise funds for CAN, which partners with families who are under-resourced to offer programs that educate youth, stabilize families, and help build community.

The event will be held at the Leslie Park Golf Course, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It will include a lunch and awards ceremony at 1pm, an 18-hole scramble, and many other fun elements. Registration begins at 8am, and tee-off is at 9am.

The golf outing is part of an annual campaign to raise funds to support the program costs, provide high-quality materials and equipment, and to ensure CAN’s ability to offer all services and programs at absolutely no cost to clients.

“The CAN golf outing is a fun and important event for our organization,” Executive Director, Derrick Millers, says. “Because of our generous participants and sponsors, we are able to make a big impact in our local community by providing families with access to educational services, food and housing, and a safe and supportive community.”

284 Partners will be the event sponsor, continuing their long tradition of partnering with CAN to create brighter futures for many under-resourced families in Washtenaw County.

As a result of CAN’s comprehensive approach, low-income students and families are experiencing many positive outcomes. 97% of CAN students are graduating from high school compared to their economic peers who graduate at 70% in Ann Arbor Public Schools. CAN kids are also attending school 8 more days per child per year. On top of that, no CAN family has been evicted due to non-payment of rent since we began tracking in 2003.

To date, CAN is serving approximately 300 youth in the educational programs and over 19,000 meals are served during the after school programs and summer camps. Over 3,200 unduplicated clients are accessing CAN community centers and/or food distributions and food pantries yearly.

Supporting CAN has many local benefits including helping students graduate from high school, teaching youth how to have healthy and stable relationships with adults and their peers, and keeping low-income neighborhoods safe and supported.
