community member   < less San Francisco- Oakland Bay Bridge 1949

The legacy of America's greatest architect endures to this day in the over 600 buildings and special designs he created, and his influence on architecture and design continues to resonate worldwide. As part of the 150th anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright's birth on June 8, 1867, Domino's Farms welcomes visitors to the Thomas S. Monaghan Frank Lloyd Wright Collection exhibition for the month of June.
Located within the Wright-inspired Prairie-style building at Domino's Farms, the exhibition includes original drawings, blueprints, and models of some of Wright's most celebrated designs including the world-famous Fallingwater, cantilevered over a mountain stream in southwest Pennsylvania, as well as windows from several Wright-built homes-or as he called his exquisite designs in glass, "light screens." Michigan is well represented with models of two Detroit-area houses and Wright's original colorful design drawings for a house in Ann Arbor.

  community member   < less

MIX is excited to host the work of two amazing designers for our Trunk Show Weekend, June 23 - 25, 2017

Krista Larson's designs are among the most popular here at MIX. Part of the reason for that is the ability for you to become a part of the design process. With her whole Fall line as inspiration, you have the opportunity to co-create your look with an almost limitless combination of form and fabric.

Artwear by Mieko Mintz has quickly become one of our most sought after lines. With an endless combination of available Kantha fabrics, the same jacket or vest is never produced twice. Each piece is unique, blending a new combination of colors and textures into a truly one-of-a-kind wearable art piece. This trunk show is your chance to discover the cut and color combination that fits you best.

Join us at MIX Ypsilanti June 23-25th for an amazing fashion and shopping experience!

"Picturing Buildings: Photographers and Architecture, 1855-1985": UMMA.

community member   < less Picturing Buildings

Featuring a selection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century photographs from the Museum's collection, Picturing Buildings illuminates the enduring appeal of photographing architecture, from historic Turkish mosques and New York City skyscrapers, to industrial factories and intimate domestic interiors. Each of these visually and spatially complex sites provides photographers with representational challenges and endless opportunities to innovate.
This exhibition explores how photographers working in a range of contexts, use architecture to develop pictorial strategies in their own medium. Through selective framing, dramatic perspectival distortion, and heightened contrasts between light and dark, photographers reinterpret their architectural subjects by focusing on the creative act of constructing a photograph. The resulting images reveal our built environment in new ways and highlight the intriguing transformation that takes place when the camera converts three dimensions into two.
