I remember not 15 years ago there were only a handful of Argentinian wines available in Michigan; Chile on the other hand was a bit more available but the wines tended to be on the greener side, rustic, and lacking charm. Today Argentina has become a bigger exporter of wine than Chile, and the wines from both countries have gotten more modern, elegant, and lush. Winemakers from all over the world have settled in these beautiful South American lands, where land is cheaper, water plentiful, and labor always available (there's even a Michigan vintner making wines in Argentina). I will show you some of these old world varietals choosing from Merlot, Carmenere, Malbec, Bonarda, Syrah, and the above-mentioned. Join in for a sampling of these wonderful American wines and be prepared to be impressed. Register online 48 hours in advance at www.annarborcooks.com
