WCPARC naturalists lead programs for kids. Geared toward ages 5-8. Aug. 1: "Exploring the Creek" (Parker Mill County Park, Geddes Rd. just east of US-23). A chance to wade in the creek to look for fish, frogs, and insects. Wear closed-toe shoes or boots. Meet at the pavilion near the restrooms. Aug. 8: "Creatures of the Night!" (County Farm Park, Platt Rd. entrance). A chance to learn about bats, moths, fireflies, owls, and other creatures. Games, a story, and a craft. Aug. 15: "Fun and Fishing" (Independence Lake County Park, 3200 Jennings, north off North Territorial). Fishing instruction and a chance to fish. Poles and bait provided. Aug. 22: "Spiders Are Spectacular" (County Farm Park, Platt Rd. entrance). A spider craft, followed by a hike to catch (and release) spiders.

Xplore Engineering: University of Michigan College of Engineering.

Bring your child or grandchild to the University of Michigan campus for a day of fun and experiential learning! Through a series of workshops, children will explore the field of engineering and concepts of science. This event is geared for children entering 5th-8th grade, and is offered as a chance for all parents (not just alumni) to introduce their children to engineering concepts and the Michigan Engineering campus.
Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and space is limited. Each child must attend with an accompanying adult. Workshops from nine departments are offered, with each attendee able to participate in three of the workshops. In addition, lunch and a continental breakfast will be provided, along with a tour of the Big House and Crisler Arena.
