Monday Painters is a flexible art group. This group has become like family and all are welcome to join in for fun, learning, growing, and gentle critiquing. Members are free to come and go as they please.
Each week a DVD is shown about art that lasts half an hour. Instructor Barb Anderson has studied art for over twenty years and prior to that taught special education. She hopes to welcome new members to Monday Painters.
This study group meets Mondays from 11-3 from January 8-August 27. No class will be held on January 15, March 19, May 7, May 21, or May 28.

Intro to Aerial Silks: A2 Aviary.

Aerial Silks, also known as Tissu or Ribbons, is a fabric apparatus hung from above that is climbed, wrapped around the body, and/or tied to create dramatic drops, pose, and movements in the air.
If you have never "flown" on the aerial silks before, this is the class for you! It is designed for absolute beginners and will introduce you to the flexibility, leverage, and balance used while on the apparatus, as well as how to engage the muscles needed to stay safe in the air. This class will repeat the same curriculum each week, focusing on basic climb, foot lock, and hollow body position, so you can join at any time. Once you've mastered the basics, you'll be ready to move on to the next class level. Please register via the class schedule link before arriving to class, your first flight is $5 off!

Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do: Dawn Farm.

"Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a FREE, ongoing 2-part series presented on the 1st (part 1) and 2nd (part 2) Tuesdays of October, November, and January - June. Part 1 provides information on how to understand and recognize adolescent substance use. Part 2 has break-out sessions for adults on effective strategies to help when adolescent substance use is suspected, and for teens to explore the personal effects of substance use. Part 2 ends for adults and teens with a talk by a young person in recovery. The series is presented by Dawn Farm Youth and Family Services, and co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, WISD/LESA Health Educators' Learning Network (supporting and advocating for Whole School, Whole Community, and the Whole Child Approach-WSCC,) St. Joseph Mercy Greenbrook Recovery Center and the Ann Arbor Public Schools. The series is inclusive of parents/guardians, teens, other family members, professionals and students - all are welcome. Registration is not required.

Four Week Lamaze Childbirth Education Class: Ann Arbor Baby Beginnings.

Our four week childbirth class is our most comprehensive childbirth education option. This class meets on four Wednesdays from 6-9 pm. We are proud to partner with UM and offer this class at the Family Center at Von Voigtlander Hospital. This class is taught by a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and covers a wide range of topics including: anatomy of late pregnancy, signs of labor, stages of labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, comfort measures and positions for labor, common medical interventions, pain relief options, newborn procedures, and the early postpartum period. The emphasis is on informed decision making and working with your healthcare provider to create a birth plan that is right for you and your family.
Class meets January 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st.

"Acro Balance: Essentials of Acro': A2 Aviary.

This is an all-level class for everyone interested in learning more about Partner Acrobatics and Partner Balancing. In Acro, we play with good alignment and momentum to let the "base" balance and move a partner (flyer). There will be material appropriate to all comfort levels, with new students learning basic poses and flows while experienced students build to more challenging poses and transitions. You do not need to bring a partner or any previous experience to enjoy it!

We will begin with warm-up exercises and progress through fundamental poses that are just begging to be linked together in interesting ways! It's a fun, low-stress, and safe environment to improve fitness, balance, and communication. Please register via the included link before arriving to class.
