Horse Shows: Hunter Jumper Association of Michigan.

May 3-6, 10-13, & 17-20. English riding and jumping competitions at the state level. The shows culminate on May 20 with the exciting �Hunter Derby� finals (updated schedule at hjam.net). Spectators welcome to bring picnics.

Every Sun. Round-trip rides with various paces, distances, and destinations.

May 6: �The Gravel Grovel.� Fast/moderate-paced 45-mile ride (662-0742, 996-8079) on back roads around the county, with a stop for lunch. �Zukey Lake Tavern Brunch Ride.� Fast/moderate-paced 62-mile (476-4944) and slow-paced 40-mile ride (996-4985) rides to Zukey Lake Tavern in Pinckney for brunch.

May 13: �Mother�s Day Democratic Ride.� The assembled risers choose their own pace and destination.

May 20: �Hathaway House Ride.� Fast-paced 85-mile ride (255-8853) to Blissfield for brunch at the century-old Hathaway House restaurant. A moderate-paced 65-mile ride (255-8853) to the same destination leaves at 10 a.m. from the municipal parking lot on Ann Arbor St. at US-12 in Saline.

May 27: �Memorial Day Sunday Democratic Ride.� Pace and destination are determined by the assembled riders.

Second Sundays / family fun in Kerrytown: Mity Nice & Ann Arbor Artisans Market.

Our first fun family day celebrates Mom - and offers the kids some crafts and activities too. Making It & Mom gives mothers, grandmothers and other women who are caring a free Italian ice and a free chocolate and a flower from the artisans.
Kids will enjoy making a card and other craft activities (12-3 p.m.). Then the whole family can enjoy the Artisans Market and a short scavenger hunt through Kerrytown.
Our special events and mini-festivals will occur on the Second Sunday of every month through October - and they're family fun and free from Mity Nice and the Artisans Market.

Enchanting Mystical Dance of Sama'a: NANS.

Interactive Dance and Music Workshop based on Kiyanaa which is a system of innerwork designed to assist the development of human potential. Kiyanaa could be described as "learning how to learn" by primarily training in "divided attention".
infinity respiration and body discipline, symmetric and asymmetric movements by the method of divided attention, inner development, rhythmical contemplative movements, and the enchanting, euphoric Sama�a dance.
At a deeper level Kiyanaa movements and gestures has particular inner meaning, which becomes accessible to practioner by practice. Tradition is connected with the source of the enneagram symbol, and teaching provides practical insight into its meaning.
The system incorporates the richness of mysticism and the ancient rituals which combines elements of the persian culture and spirituality. Dance of Sama'a is an inward blessing.

Programs presented by Hudson Mills naturalist Mark Irish.

Apr. 27 (11 a.m.): �Live! Birds of Prey.� Howell Nature Center representatives present a program on birds of prey that includes displays of live hawks, owls, falcons, and vultures. $5 (kids, $3).

May 12 (1 p.m.): �Mother�s Day Wildflower Walk.� A hike to look for spring wildflowers.

May 18 (7:30 a.m.): �Bird Hike.� A hike to look for birds in a variety of habitats. Bring binoculars and a field guide.

June 22 (11 a.m.): �No Child Left Inside: Amazing Amphibians.� Discussion and display of live specimens of frogs, toads, and salamanders, followed by a hike to a pond to look for amphibians in their natural habitat. Geared toward young audiences; parents welcome. $3 per child.

�Sugarloaf Hill Secret Hike�: Huron Valley Sierra Club.

�Special Needs Family Movie�: Saline District Library.

�Sensory friendly� screening of children�s movies, with the lights up and the sound down, for families with special needs kids. Also, kids are allowed to walk around and make noise during the show.

Mar. 11: Puss in Boots, an animated adventure prequel about the cat from Shrek.

May 13: The Muppets, a musical comedy in which the Muppets must save their theatre from a greedy oil tycoon.

June 10: Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, a comedy about a third-grader whose exciting summer vacation plans are upset when she must spend it with an aunt.

U-M Natural History Museum Planetarium.

Every Sat. & Sun. Four different audiovisual planetarium shows. The Sky Tonight (11:30 a.m. Sat., 1:30 & 3:30 p.m. Sat. & Sun.) is an exploration of the current night sky. Larry Cat in Space (12:30 p.m. Sat.) is a playful cartoon about an inquisitive cat that learns more than it wanted to know about life in space when it stows away on a shuttle to be with its owner, a female scientist on her way to the Moon. Expanded View (Sat. 2:30 p.m.) is an exploration of deep space objects through the eyes of the Hubble, Spitzer, and Chandra space telescopes, each of which operates in different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Origins of Life (2:30 p.m. Sun.) is an audiovisual show about the prebiotic chemistry of the Universe after the Big Bang, the formation of the stars and solar systems, the first life on Earth, the great extinctions, and the search for extraterrestrial life.

�White Buffalo�: Purple Rose Theatre Company.

The owner thinks nothing of it until she learns that the birth is the fulfillment of an ancient Sioux prophecy of peace on earth, and her little farm is quickly overwhelmed with religious pilgrims, bringing her into contact with a culture and faith wholly unfamiliar to her. Mother�s Day Concert: Ypsilanti Pipe Organ Festival.

Soprano Martha Guth and acclaimed local pianist Penelope Crawford perform songs by Schubert about women, including song settings of selections from Faust, Wilhelm Meister, and The Lady of the Lake. Crawford performs on an 1835 fortepiano. Guth and Crawford are working on recordings of these songs for the international recording label Musica Omnia.
