Slightly more than twenty Fake Adders (twenty-two, to be exact) spotted the Fake Ad for attorney Samuel Morse on page 21 of the Summer Community Observer. The name is an amalgam of the first name of one of Detroit television’s biggest advertisers and the last name of another one of Detroit television’s biggest advertisers.

Samuel Morse is also, of course, the name of the inventor of Morse code. That connection was not lost on Shelley Anzalone, who wrote, “…. .- .. .-.. – — – …. . …- .. -.-. – .. — … …- .- .-.. .. .- -. – … .- — ..- . .-.. — — .-. … . .- – – — .-. -. . -.– —.. —– —– …- .. -.-. – .. — …” That’s Morse code for “hail to the victims valiant Samuel more attorney 8 victims,” which was some of the copy contained in the ad (including the last name of our previous winner, Rose Carol Toth).

Heidi Dailey won this issue’s drawing. She’s taking her gift certificate to the Common Grill.

To enter the Fall Community Observer Fake Ad contest, identify the fake ad by name and page number (hint: it always contains the name of the last contest’s winner in some form). Enter by email (jim@aaobserver.com) or by snail mail (Community Observer Fake Ad, 2390 Winewood, Ann Arbor, MI 48103). The deadline for entries is Tuesday, October 17.
