Roger Monk’s, the restaurant and bar on Plymouth Rd. in Dixboro, closed unannounced over the first weekend of August. “We were all there Saturday night, and Sunday morning the signs were up,” says MoonWinks Cafe manager Geri Peterman. “We’re all upset. It was a very fun local place.”

The restaurant opened in 2010 as a more casual revamp of the Lord Fox, a longtime Dixboro staple. It was known for its historic building, original bar food and selection of local beers and cocktails. The Roger Monk’s Facebook page has been taken down and its phone line disconnected, so we were unable to reach owner Erik Kolodzinski, who bought the restaurant from his parents in 2007. The location itself has been serving food since 1928, carrying on through three different names and a fire.

Local financial planning group RFC has bought the building. After renovations, it plans on using the front of the building as its office, while leasing out the back section and bar to another restaurant. “The community really would love to see a restaurant there … It’s just been a great place,” said Dixboro resident Tom Freeman when we caught up with him at the local farmers’ market. “It’s not bad to be able to walk over and get a beer.”
