Only sixty-nine people correctly identified the Fake Ad for Ms. Fix-It on page 114 of the May Observer. The name of the previous month’s winner, Diane Fenske, was hidden in the ad copy, “repair FENCE, KEY.”

That number did not include one longtime Fake Adder who almost always finds the ads and often tells us they’re too easy. We will say only that his name sounds a lot like a possible new breakfast item at McDonald’s, the Lean McMuffin.

“I remember being very irritated the first time you hid the fake ad amidst the teeny tiny service ads near the end of the Observer,” wrote Sonia Zawacki. “I had gone through the publication umpteen times and could. not. find. it. But this time around, it stared right at me, on page 114, seconds after I read about last month’s winner. Success! Not that I wouldn’t hire a woman to take care of household repairs if I needed someone, but Ms. Fix-It just had that look of Fake Ad-ness. It was the inconsistent font sizes and the goofy wording that helped give it away.”

Our winner was Susan Pollans. She’s taking her gift certificate to Zingerman’s Roadhouse.

To enter this month’s contest, find the fake ad in the June issue and follow the instructions in the box at the bottom of the Back Page. The fake ad always contains the name of last month’s winner in some form.
